{"id":148,"date":"2020-04-06T16:32:27","date_gmt":"2020-04-06T16:32:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kusd.edu\/bradford-staging-new\/?page_id=148"},"modified":"2025-06-23T08:13:15","modified_gmt":"2025-06-23T13:13:15","slug":"national-honor-society","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.kusd.edu\/bradford\/activities\/national-honor-society\/","title":{"rendered":"National Honor Society"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"style1\">A premier group established to recognize outstanding high school students who show achievement and demonstrate excellence in scholarship, character, leadership, and servitude.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Adviser: Mrs. Pritzlaff<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>President: Rachel Shatzer<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Vice President of Service: Alivia Scozarro<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Vice President of Scholarships: Sara ReaLopez<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Secretary: Abby Schumacher<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Historian: Robin Loewen<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Meeting Schedule:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All Meetings are at 6:45 a.m. in the Library<\/p>\n<p><u>LAST MEETING FOR Semester 1<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Thursday January 16th<\/p>\n<p><u>Meetings Schedule &#8211; Sem. 2<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Thursday January 30th<\/li>\n<li>Thursday February 13th<\/li>\n<li>Thursday February 27th<\/li>\n<li>Thursday March 13th<\/li>\n<li>Thursday March 27th<\/li>\n<li>Thursday April 10th<\/li>\n<li>Thursday May 1st<\/li>\n<li>Thursday May 15th<\/li>\n<li>Thursday June 5th (juniors and new members only)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Purpose<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The purpose of this chapter shall be to provide members the opportunity to learn and apply the four pillars of the National Honor Society; exemplifying scholarship, displaying leadership, exhibiting strong character, and being of service to our Bradford and °®ÆæÒÕ×ÊÔ´Õ¾ community.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Membership<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Membership in the National Honor Society is a privilege, not a right.\u00a0 Members are expected to participate in NHS activities including attending meetings, performing 30 hours of community service per semester, and active involvement in the two (semester 1 and semester 2) group service projects.<\/p>\n<p>Members will be selected annually by a defined process and may be dismissed from the group for specified reasons in conflict with the principles of the National Honor Society or with the Mary D. Bradford National Honor Society Bylaws.<\/p>\n<p>To become official, all potential members must pay a universal fee of $40.00 upon acceptance into the Mary D. Bradford Chapter of the National Honor Society.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Selection of Members<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The selection of members for the Mary D Bradford High School Chapter of the National Honor Society shall be conducted as follows:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>At the end of a student\u2019s freshman year their cumulative GPA will be reviewed by the Chapter Advisor(s).\u00a0 Student\u2019s with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 on a scale of 4.0000 will be notified by the chapter advisor and provided with a copy of the National Honor Society Application Form.\u00a0 This form shall provide documentation of the candidate\u2019s character, leadership, and service.\n<ol>\n<li>Character- The six pillars of character are respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, fairness, caring, and citizenship.\u00a0 The following are also qualities that the council will consider:\n<ol>\n<li>Takes criticism willingly and accepts recommendations graciously.<\/li>\n<li>Consistently exemplifies desirable qualities of behavior (cheerfulness, friendliness, poise, and stability).<\/li>\n<li>Upholds principles of morality and ethics.<\/li>\n<li>Cooperates by complying with school regulations.\u00a0 A student who has a documented record of school discipline will not be considered for membership unless he or she obtains a letter from the Principal assuring that his or her character is no longer in question.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrates the highest standards of honesty, respect, and reliability.<\/li>\n<li>Observes instructions and rules, is punctual and faithful both inside and outside of school, and adheres to state and national law.<\/li>\n<li>Manifests truthfulness in acknowledging obedience to rules, avoiding cheating, and showing unwillingness to profit by the mistakes of others.<\/li>\n<li>Actively helps to improve the school environment.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol>\n<li>Leadership- Leadership shall not be interpreted solely on the grounds of holding elective office or other traditional leadership positions.\u00a0 A candidate who exercises leadership:\n<ol>\n<li>Is resourceful in proposing new solutions to problems, applying principles, and making suggestions.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrates initiative in promoting school activities.<\/li>\n<li>Exercises positive influence on peers in upholding school ideals.<\/li>\n<li>Contributes ideas that improve the civic life of the school.<\/li>\n<li>Is able to delegate responsibilities.<\/li>\n<li>Inspires positive behavior in others.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrates academic initiative.<\/li>\n<li>Successfully holds offices or positions of responsibility at school, work, church, social clubs, or other community organizations.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ol>\n<li>Service- Service is considered to be those activities undertaken by the student which are done with or on behalf of others without any direct financial or material compensation.\u00a0 Candidates must document evidence of community service performed during the 12 months prior to his\/her consideration for membership.\u00a0 A candidate who exercises service:\n<ol>\n<li>Volunteers and provides dependable and well organized assistance, is gladly available, and is willing to sacrifice his\/her time to offer assistance.<\/li>\n<li>Works well with others and is willing to take on difficult or inconspicuous responsibilities.<\/li>\n<li>Cheerfully and enthusiastically renders any requested service to the school or community.<\/li>\n<li>Is willing to represent the class or school in inter-class and inter-scholastic competition.<\/li>\n<li>Performs committee and staff work without complaint.<\/li>\n<li>Mentors persons in the community or students at other schools.<\/li>\n<li>Volunteers services for the elderly, poor, or disadvantaged.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol>\n<li>Completed NHS Application Forms shall be reviewed by the Faculty Council.\u00a0 Students who fail to the complete the NHS Application or fail to turn the form in by the date set by the Faculty Council will not be considered for membership.<\/li>\n<li>Candidates who are selected for membership by a majority vote of the Faculty Council shall be inducted into the chapter.<\/li>\n<li>Students who are selected shall be notified of their selection and given information regarding the induction ceremony and the obligations of membership in NHS.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>NOTE:\u00a0 If a student has been invited to join NHS at the beginning of their sophomore year, and they decline the offer, he\/she will not be able to apply again.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A premier group established to recognize outstanding high school students who show achievement and demonstrate excellence in scholarship, character, leadership, and servitude.
