  {"id":4850,"date":"2021-10-19T17:33:38","date_gmt":"2021-10-19T17:33:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kusd.edu\/tremper-staging\/?page_id=4850"},"modified":"2023-11-08T10:39:48","modified_gmt":"2023-11-08T16:39:48","slug":"grading-philosophy","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.kusd.edu\/tremper\/information\/grading-philosophy\/","title":{"rendered":"Grading Philosophy and Honor Roll Criteria"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1><span style=\"color: #ed1c24\"><strong>Grading Philosophy<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><b>At Tremper we use a 90\/10 grading system.\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><b>90% of students&#8217; grades are based on summative assessments that may include performance projects, essays, tests, etc. which show each student\u2019s mastery of curriculum.\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><b>10% of students&#8217; grades are based on formative (practice) work and assessments that provide students with opportunities to gain the acquired skills and gauge their mastery of curriculum prior to a summative assessment.\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;font-size: 14pt\">Current research into best practices indicates that formative assignments and assessments should be \u201clow stakes.\u201d This means we don\u2019t \u201cpunish\u201d kids for academic practice. This process helps students to know where they are in their learning going into a summative assessment.\u00a0 It makes their demonstration of mastery the bulk of the grade.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;font-size: 14pt\">A 90\/10 Grading system allows students to make mistakes as part of the learning process and builds students\u2019 skills, persistence, and resilience.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;font-size: 14pt\">A consistent structure and application in grading is equitable.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;font-size: 14pt\">It provides equal opportunities for success.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;font-size: 14pt\">It clearly and equitably communicates evidence of learning.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;font-size: 14pt\">Having consistent grading practices provides clarity for parents and students about how they will be graded at Tremper.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1><span style=\"color: #ed1c24\">KUSD High School Honor Roll Criteria\u00a0<\/span><\/h1>\n<h3>Currently, boundary, choice and charter high schools issue a final grade upon completion of courses. Most courses are considered complete at the end of the semester. However, some schools also may have quarter-long courses that issue final grades upon completion. This can cause confusion for families transitioning from middle to high school as to when and how the honor roll is determined.<\/p>\n<p>NEW: Beginning with the 2023-24 school year, the high school honor roll will only be\u00a0reported at the end of each semester. To qualify, students must earn a laude-qualifying GPA from their primary enrollment school.
